Associate Attorney

Harvest Legal is accepting applications for the position of full-time or part-time Associate Attorney for its Emporia, Kansas, location. (Kansas-licensed attorneys interested in criminal defense remote work are also encouraged to apply.)

About Us:

Harvest Legal was founded in 2013 in response to the growing legal need in rural Kansas. In the years following, we have been blessed to experience growth throughout the region. To continue that growth, we would like to add an associate attorney who is passionate about providing quality legal services in rural areas, where the need for attorneys continues to grow.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

Attorneys will engage in a general rural practice throughout east-central Kansas, including but not limited to criminal defense (municipal, misdemeanor, felony and juvenile), child in need of care (both as guardian ad litem and parent’s attorney), estate planning, and representing small businesses in both transactional and litigation matters. Attorneys with experience in family law litigation are also encouraged to apply.

Attorneys must be able to respectfully and successfully work with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, and the courts.

Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school. Applicants must either be licensed to practice law in the State of Kansas or have a license in another state in good standing, willing and able to seek admission to the Kansas bar immediately upon hire. We welcome applications from candidates preparing to take the bar exam in 2023.

Compensation is dependent upon experience and qualifications. We offer a performance-based salary structure; provide a CLE allowance; and cover malpractice insurance and bar dues. Our county (and surrounding counties) are considered a Rural Opportunity Zone, which means you might qualify for Student Loan Repayment Assistance and a 100% State Income Tax Credit for relocating here. Why consider rural practice?

Some applicants might wonder if a rural practice will be a good fit for them. In our experience, rural practice has been a great way to start and build a career. The opportunity to do meaningful work – right away – and build quality relationships with colleagues, judges, clients, etc., has been so positive. The chance to be involved in the lifeblood of a community means a lot. Unexpectedly, there is huge demand and potential for growth in rural practice, which is great, and at the same time, we find purpose in increasing access to legal representation for parts of the state that are struggling with that. In general, there is a low cost of living here, and the pace of life brings a really healthy work-life balance.

In our area, there is an abundance of culture, great dining, active lifestyle (cycling, disc golf, etc.), and so much more. The region is also well-situated between Topeka/Lawrence, Wichita, Kansas City and Manhattan, so you can easily access even more shopping, sporting events, live entertainment, etc., as desired.
